Native Fish Society Staff

Mark Sherwood, River Steward Coordinator

Mark Sherwood joined the NFS staff in July of 2010 as our Admin. and Development Assistant and currently works as our River Steward Coodinator. An ardent fly fisherman and conservationist since youth, Mark earned his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and English Literature from Westmont College in 2007. During his summers he worked the Arkansas River Valley in Colorado as a rafting, backpacking, climbing and fly fishing guide.

After graduation, Mark struck out on a childhood quest to live and fish in Argentina. After nearly 10 months in South America, a season spent fishing and guiding in Patagonia and additional time in Alaska fishing Bristol Bay for sockeye salmon, Mark moved to Portland to be at the epicenter of fish conservation.

At NFS, Mark works with our River Stewards, maintains the office, manages our web content and store, promotes our events, edits Strong Runs, our quarterly newsletter, looks after our social media presence and collaborates with Tom Derry and Bill Bakke on conservation and fundraising projects.

In his spare time, you can find Mark steelheading, homebrewing or riding his bicycle to and from the office. To read more about his two wheeled fishing endeavor, check out www.therodandwheel.wordpress.com
